A world-class snorkeling and scuba diving spot is located about three miles offshore at Molokini Crater, and during the winter months these are some of the best waters in all of Hawaii to see humpback whales, either from shore or on a whale watching tour. For a fun day trip take a drive out to "Heavenly Hana" to see waterfalls or through the scenic Maui Upcountry to Haleakala National Park.<br><br><b>Nearby Beaches</b><br>Makena is known for its beautiful beaches including the expansive Makena Beach which is comprised of Big Beach and Little Beach. These two beaches are separated by Puu Olai (Earthquake Hill) which was created by volcanic activity in 1790 and now divides the two sections of the coastline.
