Our Maunaloa vacation rentals provide the ultimate in luxury and relaxation in one of Hawaii's most tranquil and serene visitor destinations. Maunaloa is a charming plantation village set in the upcountry hills of Molokai with sweeping vistas of the island's southern shore. Relax and enjoy the beauty!

Things To Do
The best known and most easily accessed beaches on the west side of Molokai near the town of Maunaloa are Dixie Maru Beach (also called Kapukahehu) and Papohaku Beach. A sheltered cove at Dixie Maru can be nice for swimming if the ocean is calm. Papohaku Beach is known for its exceptional width and length, and is also called Three Mile Beach.

In northwest Molokai you can join in the monthly guided hike with the Nature Conservancy at Kamakou Preserve to see the rare native ecosystems of the Moomomi Sand Dunes. In Central Molokai you can see Hawaii's oldest sugar mill at the Molokai Museum & Cultural Center about eight miles from Kaunakakai. Museum photographs, a century-old steam engine and other historic items are available for viewing. Both guided and self-guided tours are available, with tours taking about one hour.

Kalaupapa National Historical Park in the north central region of Molokai is where Hansen's disease (leprosy) victims were exiled to in the mid-1800's, and where Father Damien (now Saint Damien) arrived to minister to the patients and eventually also succumbed to the disease.

Kalaupapa may be reached via a mule ride from atop the cliffs descending 1,700 feet in elevation down into the valley along a 3-mile, 26-switchback route which offers outstanding coastal views. Take a historic tour of the settlement to learn more about this region. The peninsula of Kalaupapa can also be viewed on an air tour, or from Palaau State Park which has nice hiking trails and stunning vistas of Molokai's northern coast.

Eat and Shop
The small town of Maunaloa offe…
