Haleiwa is charming and historical old plantation town that is now the commercial, social and artistic center of the north shore. Beautiful beach parks, a small boat harbor and great shops and restaurants provide everything you need for a memorable Hawaii vacation. Things To Do Great beaches abound in this area including the two beach parks right near town, Haleiwa Alii Beach Park and Haleiwa Beach Park on either side of Haleiwa Harbor. Rainbow Bridge over the river is considered the "gateway to the north shore." Spend the morning at the beach and then stroll into town to browse the shops and grab a bite to eat. On the north shore many activities are available including golf, hiking and biking, kayaking, horseback riding and more. Take a drive to see some of the famed surfing beaches like Sunset Beach, Banzai Pipeline and Waimea Bay which are typically calm as a lake during the summer months and great for water activities. Nearby Beaches Haleiwa has two beach parks near the small boat harbor on Waialua Bay. To the north is Haleiwa Beach Park and to the south is Haleiwa Alii Beach Park, the eastern section of which is located in the harbor's breakwater. To the west is Kaiaka State Recreation Area on the Kaiaka Point peninsula with a sandy beach and great views of the Waianae Mountains and the Haleiwa coastline. During the winter months Haleiwa Alii Beach Park hosts some top professional surfing competitions. The beach park has picnic areas, restrooms and showers. Swimmers should use caution here due to the steep beach, outcropping rocks and currents. Haleiwa Alii Beach Park is a good place to learn to surf when the waves are small, and offshore are the surfing spots called Rock Piles and Off the Wall for experienced surfers.
