About Waikane Vacation Rentals

Waikane is the perfect setting for a luxurious and relaxing stay in one of Hawaii's most desirable vacation destinations. Waikane Valley extends from Oahu's eastern coastline near Kaneohe Bay up into the Koolau mountains in a lush and verdant valley with scenery that has made it a favorite filming location for major Hollywood movies.

Things To Do
Ocean activities abound in this area from surfing and bodyboarding to kayaking, snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding and even jet-ski rides. Just south are the water sports meccas of Kaneohe Bay and Kailua Bay where you can go sailing, take a surfing lesson or just relax on the white sand beach and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Go for a hike in Waimea Valley, swim at Waimea Falls and enjoy vistas of the north shore and Waimea Bay. A variety of interactive activities are also offered at Waimea Valley, and plant lovers will enjoy seeing and learning about Hawaii's native plants in the botanical gardens.

Nearby Beaches
For ocean activities head south to Kaneohe Bay where you can kayak or go sailing. A bit further south is beautiful Kailua Bay which is ideal for many ocean activities from swimming and snorkeling to bodyboarding and stand up paddle boarding.
A day trip to Oahu's north shore will reward you with a string of pristine beaches including the famed surfing beaches of Sunset Beach, Banzai Pipeline and Waimea Bay. Waiahole Beach Park is a dark sand beach where the swimming is not so good due to the rocky bottom though the views are worth a visit with the backdrop of the verdant Koolau mountains and Chinaman's Hat islet offshore. From this beach you also have a nice view of Waikane Pier which has been seen in movies like 50 First Dates and television shows including Lost and Fantasy Island.

Restaurants
The Waikane Store is a north shore landmark with plenty of local snacks (pupus) including their signature mochiko chicken. You can quench your thirst with a slushy or Diamond Head soda, and kids will enjoy trying the li hing mui.
Head south to Kaneohe town for a whole range of great dining choices. A bit farther south is Kailua town which has a compact downtown district with numerous excellent restaurants.

Shopping
Stop in at the historic Waikane Store which has been operating for more than a century. Just south of Waikane you will find lots of shopping opportunities in Kaneohe including the Windward Mall with more than 100 stores to browse and also a movie theater. A bit further south you will find that downtown Kailua is a shopper's delight with numerous boutique gift stores as well as art galleries and department stores.

Getting Around
A rental car is recommended when staying in Waikane vacation rentals so you can explore the great beaches and attractions of Oahu's scenic windward shore, and day trips to the north shore as well as Waikiki and downtown Honolulu on the south shore. Most major populated areas of Oahu can also be reached on the public transit system known as "TheBus."

Weather and Ocean Conditions
Waikane weather ranges from about 70 to 85 degrees F. throughout the year. Oahu's eastern and northern shores are generally a bit wetter and cooler than the south and west shores, and the winter months typically see more rain than summer. Sunny skies, mild temperatures and warm trade winds make Waikane an excellent vacation destination all year around. Ocean conditions vary each day though typically the north shore will have the calmest waters during the summer months and the south shore will have the calmest waters during the winter. Some beaches provide more protection from the open ocean, and if the waves are too big at the beach you visit then you may be able to find a more sheltered beach where water activities are safe. For swimming and ocean activities visit Oahu's lifeguarded beaches. Make sure to obey all posted warnings and ask about the conditions on that day for the activities you choose.
