About Puako Villas

Our Puako luxury rentals are ideally situated in one of Hawaii's most desired vacation destinations along the scenic Kohala Coast. Known for its dry and sunny weather, this region offers excellent beaches and attractions, resort shopping and dining, and close access to the vibrant Waimea town.

Things To Do
Stroll along the Puako shoreline where you can explore tidepools that are the habitat of lots of interesting marine life. This area also has some of the island's best nearshore scuba diving opportunities including lava tubes and caverns in the coral reefs. At the Puako petroglyph fields you can see ancient Hawaiian rock carvings numbering more than 3,000 in all and still preserved on this historic landscape.

Just north of Puako is the picturesque Hapuna Beach with crystal clear water great for swimming. There is exceptional snorkeling at the south end of the beach where a coral reef is teeming with tropical fish. Restrooms, shower, picnic tables and an idyllic beach setting make Hapuna a great place to spend the afternoon.

At the Kohala Coast resort areas you can play on championship golf courses and get a luxurious spa treatment. There are lots of activities for everyone from horseback riding and ATV excursions over the beautiful countryside to snorkeling and scuba diving excursions to sunset sails. Whale watching tours run during the winter months when the humpbacks arrive in Hawaiian waters.

Eat and Shop
There is just one general store in Puako so there aren't a lot of shopping options though close by you will find plenty of elegant resort dining and shopping as well as the many restaurants and shops Waimea town.

The Kohala Coast resorts offer impeccable cuisine as well as a variety of upscale boutique shops. Head over to Waimea (also known as Kamuela) for more dining and shopping choices. Experience some of the Big Island's finest culinary artistry at Merriman's Waimea run by master chef Peter Merriman, one of the founders of Hawaii Regional Cuisine.

Getting Around
A rental car is recommended when staying in Puako luxury rentals so you can explore the many interesting sites and attractions of the Big Island's Kohala Coast and beyond from Hilo and the Kona Coast to Volcanoes National Park. Puako is about a half-hour drive from the Kona International Airport
