The pictures online do not do this house justice! The kitchen is nice with a wonderful selection of spices. The house was immaculate. The westerly view was perfect for watching humpback whales and spinner dolphins playing out front. We took binoculars, but could see them clearly from the lanai- absolutely amazing!!! I highly recommend calling the contacts prior to arriving on the island. The gate/house codes were not correct from the reservation center. The island contact was friendly and very helpful! We would absolutely stay here again.
We loved the view, watching the waves crashing, dolphins frolicking from the deck. Spectacular sunsets!
Customer service was great. Did not have a greeter at the house, which we have enjoyed when renting apartments and houses in other parts of the world. But it worked out OK. The upstairs bath (not master) needs work. The bath does not drain and faucet is very touchy, little water pressure with warm/hot water. Plenty of pressure with cold water.
The best part of our trip...the house! Volcanoes Park! Submarine ride! Hula Girl Coffee tour/tasting! Bite Me Fish Market at the marina, Place of Refuge (Don't miss it!).
Best Restaurant...fresh Monchong (from Bite Me) on our grill at the house! Otherwise loved Huggos On the Rocks
I wish I had more time to explore the eastern part of the Island. Hard to do from Kona, but wouldn't have missed this house for anything. We loved it.
The house was perfect for myself, my wife and our 1 year old son. The koi pond was a bit of a challenge for the 1 year old, but we managed to gate it off. The location was great, a few minutes walk to 2 different beaches. One for snorkeling and the other for boogie boards and body surfing. There are both boogie boards, beach mats, and snorkel gear at the rental and this was great. The TV's were a challenge and we could not get either DVD to work. Not a big issue for us. The wireless internet was great to have as well. Best insider tip for Kona, is to visit the small town of Honolola, about 20 minutes up the hill from Kona. Have lunch or dinner at the Garden Restaurant (beside the coffee shop), the best meal we had in all Hawaii and very reasonable.
This home has no negatives. Every aspect of the home and its location were perfrect for our family. If is was pressed to say something negative, all I could come up with is that the bathrooms could use some extra towel bars. The bathrooms by themselves were spectacular for a rental home. What we likes the most was the lanai and how it opened into the house.
The all around servise was very good.
Unfortunately we did not find find what we would call fine resaurants in the Kailua-Kona area. However, the fish and chips and salads at Drysdales Two was a surprise and we would recommend for lunch. Jameson's was ver disapointing for dinner.
The golf was great and resonably priced.
I certainly would consider renting this unit again when I return to the Big Island.
2-here's a few small areas for improvement. We realize many of these were probably caused by the fact no one had been in the house for a few months:
3-There were no sponges. There was no pepper. (neither were gauranteed, but every other house we have been in had ample supply of both.)
4-there is a shortage of forks and glasses. There's about 8 forks and 4 glasses (8 if you are willing to consider all sizes including the large plastic ones). When you have 7 people, we had to run the dishwasher after every meal.
5-it would be very helpful to label the light/fan switches. There are many, many switches and it is hard to figure them out.
6-as reported, there is water in the garage.
7-Ant spray should have been provided. The ants were pretty aggressive at the beginning.
8-The geckos were very cool.
9-the table in the left lower lanei needs some work. It is basically a large piece of wood on a concrete stand. Anyone who bumps the tabletop at all can bring it and all that is on it down to the ground. Since this is the major lanei for hanging out, it is pretty annoying that the table is not stable.
10-Many thanks. We truly enjoyed the house even if there were some issues.
Great home with a incredible view!!! The pool and hot tub are acually built in the ocean! We sat and enjoyed all of it and saw dolphins, whales, and turtles from the porch every day. We fed 4 different Morey eels daily, and acually named them all. I would come back to this house!! Highly recomended.
The Kona View House was fantastic! It was genuinely a home away from home. It was tastefully decorated with nice linens and beautiful towels. The kitchen was well equipped, it even had plastic containers for left-overs, fancy glasses for wine and cocktails as well as gourmet quality knives. The wireless internet was great, as we all had to bring laptops to do little bits of correspondance or email and the kids had homework. On one occasion we plugged a laptop into the printer, as it had a USB port. Everything else was as described - it was very close to two beaches and it was oceanfront. Don't laugh about the oceanfront. I once rented an oceanfront home that turned out to be on top of a cliff and it was a 20 minute walk to get down to the water. We had to walk down the block then along a switchback trail to get to the water that was 3 stories below the house.
Gppd Location was good. Bad House was in disrepair in many annoying ways. Sliding doors don't latch AC won't cool lower portion of the home. Disposal doesn't work No garage opener Pool was not 85 degrees as stated. Most of the latches on the large sliding doors in the living room a broken Just plan old not worth the money, I've stayed in much better houses for much less. Very disappointing, would not rent it again.
