Our
Haena vacation rentals offer the best of the island’s wild and primitive beauty, with a magnificently scenic respite. The idyllic setting played a part in creating the legendary films, South Pacific and The Thorn Birds. Also consider our 5
Haena luxury rentals.
Haena, on the North Shore, is known as the end of the road and for the beginning of hula. It’s a town for anyone seeking adventure, panorama, and a taste of Kauai’s past.
Things to Do
Our
Haena beach rentals sit near the end of the paved road where the 11-mile Kalalau Trail begins, where countless make the renowned trek to the Na Pali cliffs. Haena Beach County Park offers plenty of activitiy—camping, snorkeling and swimming beach, picnicking, explorations of nearby wet and dry caves, kite surfing, windsurfing, and more.
Tunnels Beach (Makua Beach) is known worldwide for its diving and snorkeling, with remarkable lava tubes, coral formations, sea turtles, and vast array of sealife. Haena State Park is the site to explore the Maniniholo Dry Cave and the ancient wet caves, Waikanaloa and Waikapalae.
Where the road ends at Ke’e Beach, swimming is a popular summertime activity, while snorkeling is excellent year-round. Hikers will find that further exploration leads to the ancient heiaus, the birthplace of hula, which provide a spectacular view. Sunsets at Ke’e Beach proudly illustrate Mt. Makana, more often referred to as Bali Hai. As a note of trivia, the area around Ke’e Beach was once a hippie community known as Taylor Camp, as in Elizabeth Taylor’s brother.
Limahuli National Tropical Botanical Garden, also in Haena, is open to visitors for tours. See the lava rock terraces, native plants, and bountiful blooms, a treat to see Hawaii’s plantations in the present.
Eat and Shop
Nearby Hanalei is just 15 minutes from our
Haena rentals, with plenty of restaurants in a variety of cuisines, including local fare. A small general store is located in Haena where guests can buy essentials. A conventional grocery store and health food stores are available in Hanalei, as are shops for local gifts, swimwear, art, and more.
Getting Around
A rental car is best for those staying in Haena.
