Haena State Park is the site to explore the Maniniholo Dry Cave and the ancient wet caves, Waikanaloa and Waikapalae.Where the road ends at Ke'e Beach, swimming is a popular summertime activity, while snorkeling is excellent year-round. Hikers will find that further exploration leads to the ancient heiaus, the birthplace of hula, which provide a spectacular view. Sunsets at Ke'e Beach proudly illustrate Mt. Makana, more often referred to as Bali Hai. As a note of trivia, the area around Ke'e Beach was once a hippie community known as Taylor Camp, as in Elizabeth Taylor's brother.
Limahuli National Tropical Botanical Garden, also in Haena, is open to visitors for tours. See the lava rock terraces, native plants, and bountiful blooms, a treat to see Hawaii's plantations in the present.
