Tiki Tacos

The best fish tacos on Kaua'i can be found midway through the town of Kapa'a at a little storefront called "Tiki Tacos". The secret is the owner whose actual name is Tiki. She brings the wealth of flavors of her experiences with her grandma's fresh restaurant cuisine from Mexico, mixed with her love of Hawaiian tastes. This specialty taco house makes its' own custom made sauces from fresh ingredients and local produce. The homemade tortillas are also a stand out, making for an authentic taqueria experience with plates piled high with juicy flavorful combinations, and lacking the normally bland beans and rice that fill most tacos.

Amongst the sea of casual eateries in Kapaa, Tiki Tacos is a true stand out for quality food preparations and the best prices for very generous portions of food. Besides the fish, the other meat selections including lamb, beef, and pork are all Kauai grass fed. Many of the same preparations available for the fish, can be substituted by other meat selections.  The tacos at TIki's are the biggest I have seen for the price and come piled with lots of  local ingredients. Fresh guacamole, proprietary sauces made fresh daily, as well as handmade tortillas make these tacos extra special.

"The best fish taco" is my favorite fish menu item, or "The Big Kahuna" if you like it a little spicy. "Mayas Hawaiian" is a great specialty taco on the menu with flavorful caramelized pineapple in dry chile marinade.

For the non-fish lover, try the "Kalua Pig" which is traditional Hawaiian preparation of smoked pork shredded so that it melt in your mouth.

Parking bonus:
Tiki Tacos is midway through Kapaa in a small shopping center, and has its own parking lot making parking easy. Near Chevron and look for the blue "Prudential Insurance" sign on the inland side of the roadway. Tiki's is in the same shopping center, below the colorful red and yellow sign.
