Kihei's 4th Friday Town Party

Description

The Kihei area of Maui is usually most notable for its collection of fantastic beaches and great weather. It is usually the classic quiet beach community, except for every 4th Friday of the month when amidst the Azeka Mauka Shopping Center the town of Kihei comes alive with vibrant color and live entertainment in an open air "town celebration". Food trucks stretch for two blocks creating a massive food court, and a parking lot of crafts, clothing, and art vendors show their talents and local flair from 6 to 9 pm.

Highlight:
Kihei's free once a month "4th Friday Town Party" is a fantastic event hosted by the entire community.  A full array of food choices, plus live entertainment and fun for the whole family.

Location:
Kihei, Maui

Hours:
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every 4th Friday of the month.

The "Maui Friday Town Parties" were created as an initiative by the Maui County Office of Economic Development to showcase the island's historic towns and celebrate their unique communities. On the 4th Friday of each month Kihei is the host of the festivities, creating a great opportunity to mix and merge with the local community.

Live music and street performers make for focal points of the action, but the fabric of this Oceanside community is evident through out the walkways of the marketplace. Meet the artisans selling their wears, update your "island style" or try something new like a fresh fruit popsicle, or fish tacos.

The normally hot dry days in Kihei are supplanted with cool evening sea breezes making the outdoor market place environment very relaxing. Being a "leeward" coast event, the chances of rain are pretty minimal making the outdoor festivities alluring to guests and residents from all over the island.

Bring some good walking shoes as the whole event takes place on pavement and you may want to walk around a lot. You might even find a dance under the stars on the impromptu dance floor might just be the ticket for an unplanned vacation bonus.

The music changes monthly and the high-energy event always gets the local talent fired up. For a great dose of free outdoor nightlife on Maui's Southside the "4th Friday" in Kihei cannot be beat.

Locals Tip:
To get the most enjoyment and least stress out of your evening, arrive a little before 6 p.m. and try parking at one of the closer parking areas such as the Kihei Post Office or the gravel lot opposite the "Long's Drug Shopping Center".

Directions:
From HI-route 31 turn toward the ocean onto Lipoa Street and follow through multiple traffic lights. At the intersection of Lipoa and South Kihei Road turn right and begin your search for parking once you have reached the second traffic light. The "Celebration" is on the right at "Azeka Mauka" but turn left into "Azeka Makai" or into the Post Office at the 3rd traffic light.
*If staying in Kihei you can reach the "Azeka's" via South Kihei Road directly.
