This Pete Dye designed course wraps through rolling hillsides surrounded by lush jungle scenery. Strategically making the most out of the terrain, many holes have enticing challenges where choosing your landing depends on your knowledge of your game. The Royal Hawaiian Golf Club is great Hawaii golf removed from signs of civilization and placed right in the heart of the green majestic landscape at the foothills of the Ko'olau Mountains.

Highlights: Lush green mountain views set the background as you enjoy golfing in paradise, with less commotion then the resorts. The mountain terrain and forest surrounding the course make you feel remote and removed from civilization.
Challenges: The course design features lots of slopes, some water hazards and a few bunkers mid-fairway and surrounding greens. Stay on course, or prepare to lose some golf balls, as the surrounding forest is thick.

The Royal Hawaiian Golf Club course has rave reviews online for overall golf experience, and quality of staff. Some even rank it amongst their Oahu favorite courses. Directions:

  • Royal Hawaiian Golf Club is located in the Maunawili area of Oahu. From H1 West take the Pali Highway, or from Honolulu, turn Mauka from the Nimitz onto Alakea Street which eventually becomes the Pali Highway.
  • Continue up and over the Koolau Mountain Range, through the Pali Tunnel. At the bottom of the hill on the windward side continue through the first traffic light, a major intersection connecting Kamehameha Highway and Kaneohe, onto the Kalanianaole Highway.
  • Stay on the Kalanianaole Highway through the next intersection and traffic light (Kapaa Quarry Road), and finally turn right at the third traffic light which is Auloa Road.
  • From here immediately cross the traffic island to your left onto the access road that parallels the main highway. After driving along the pasture for about 100 yards, you will enter the gated entrance to Luana Hills. The clubhouse is about a mile farther.
