Another scenic drive is the twisting and winding road to "Heavenly Hana" town on the eastern tip of the island where you will see many waterfalls and breathtaking coastal vistas. Just past Hana is the lower portion of Haleakala National Park with outstanding hikes including the Pools of Oheo and two impressive waterfalls.</p></div>

Nearby is the palm-fringed crescent of beautiful Makena Beach. These waters are also one of the best places in Hawaii to see humpback whales passing by offshore during the winter months. On the eastern end of Maui near Hana is Waianapanapa State Park with striking coastal views amid the rugged lava rocks and blue water.
